Falling in love...

Technology can be such great fun. Especially when you begin to relate with it. Recently I burdened myself with the fascination of writing in Hindi -- I have begun to read Hindi newspapers as well and unlike their visual counterparts they bring in fresh, serious perspectives sans illogical, irrelevant -- soon to realise that typing in Hindi Krutidev font was not my cup of tea. I offered innumerable lectures telling my students from IILM to Amity, FMCC and Pioneer Media School on why they must learn typing in Hindi if they have to move anywhere closer to getting a job.

When the suave and large-hearted Niraj Singh, my student and attached to a leading Hindi daily, agreed to offer his generous help and take a look at my articles provided I write it, I began to quiver at the thought. It's being so shameful but I must confess working in an English environment all these years -- The Indian Express, The Times of India, The Pioneer, PC World, IILM -- I find it hard to think and write in Hindi. But then it's my mother tongue and also in my blood, my father despite being a professor of English has a fair command over Hindi.

Now I can write fairly well by hand, Niraj turned quiet when I suggested what if I sent him a handwritten piece by fax. So here I was determined to somehow do it. Worried, I thought of writing a blog to de-stress and bingo. I bumped into a wonderful tool.

And those who don't know must know about this: it's available here, right on this site at blogger.com and it's called 'Transliteration' feature. This does wonder to handicap people like me who, despite being championing the cause of Krutidev to hundreds, falter miserably when it comes to themselves.

Blogger simply suggests you type your language in Roman, it could be Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada. And the moment you start typing, the software converts it into the respective fonts. And like me, you will not stop grinning.

And in case you have a handicap like me, simply search 'Transliteration + Blogger' in Google and you have the solution of a lifetime.

Hail Google. I completed my first article today and in case it gets rejected I will post it soon. Ah, in fact, I can post it even if it gets selected.
